“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it …”

– Abraham Lincoln, March 4, 1861

Our Reforms

In the hallowed tradition of the Bill of Rights, the Emancipation party is calling for Amendments to the constitution to implement our Five Reforms.

Free Money

In the Free Money system, new money is not created through bank loans in a destructive combination of credit and money policy. Instead, when the economy expands and we need more money to keep prices stable, we simply create more money – and deposit it as a “social dividend” into the accounts of every citizen.

Real Transparency

This reform will ensure that all account transactions of Legal Entities and all transactions in securities will be world viewable; the buyer, the seller, the amount, the price and full legal documentation will be available to all. The essence of Real Transparency must be the ability to “follow the money”.

Open Finance

By eliminating the advantage that investment banks and hedge funds have over individual investors by revealing their financial information for everyone to see, participation becomes open to everyone through peer to peer lending, crowdfunding and simplified securities markets. This is Open Finance.

Smart Tax

With one exception, we will eliminate all loopholes and deductions from the tax code. We will entirely eliminate the concept of a “capital gains” tax rate by eliminating “two tier taxation” altogether. We will eliminate the payroll tax and shift estate taxes from the estate to the beneficiary.

Clean Democracy

Clean Democracy responds to our sullied system by 1) creating a new kind of money, “political money,” $8.50 of which will be deposited into the account of every citizen every month and which only can be used for political purposes and 2) proposing a strict divide between public service and private benefit, substantially curtailing any lobbying activity by former elected officials.

Citizenship Wage

This reform will establish a non-taxable Citizenship Wage of about $8000 per year, per adult. The Citizenship Wage will replace and eliminate the need for means tested poverty transfer programs. This “wage” is actually a dividend vested to every American citizen as an equal share of the national equity created by all of our contributions to national prosperity.

Open Creation

Within the context of the Citizenship Wage, each citizen would receive $10 a month of special money that can only be used to fund the creation of intellectual property.  Anything created under this program would be considered to be “in the public domain”.  This would be a first step towards a future of super-abundance via the rise of what we call “non-rivalrous” economics.

Drug Peace

The Emancipation Party will seek the earliest possible end to the drug war and will immediately end the federal prohibition on marijuana use, leaving the question of legalization to the states.  Prohibition has been a failed policy of epic hypocrisy that spreads violence and corruption around the world.

Universal Health Care

We will establish a Universal Health Care System with the scope of, if not in the form of, Canada or the UK.   While there are many details to be hammered out, there exists proof that every industrialized country but the United States of America has a functioning universal health care system that is cheaper per capita than our system and delivers as good or better public health results.
